Based on the serialized novel by Alexandre Dumas, this witty adaptation tells the story of Edmond Dantes, a young sailor betrayed by his best friend and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Thrown into the dreaded Chateau d’If for fourteen years, Edmond meets and befriends an old priest who knows of a secret treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo and, following the priest’s death and his own daring escape, Edmond uses the island’s immense fortune to fund his plans of revenge. Becoming the Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond struggles within himself to balance the priest’s message of Christian forgiveness and Edmond’s own vengeful pride. Bandits, swordplay, and romance abound in this dramatic retelling of one of the world’s most timeless stories.
